We cant help it really, can we? It seems everywhere we look and everything we do is shrouded in darkness. The worst thing a girl can do it forget the light that she holds within her. So, I hope this list eases your soul as it does mine. These are things that bring me joy in small yet undeniable ways:
brushing your curly hair while looking in the mirror (you slowly start to lose sight of your face and cant help but laugh.)
getting in a warm shower after getting caught in the rain.
lying in your mums arms after really needing a hug while at university.
a long walk with headphones and a pack of Marlboro golds.
salted popcorn and a diet coke at the cinema.
seeing your best friends fall in love.
getting a reasonably priced matcha at a coffee shop that does not taste like fish.
tan skin and green clothing.
sharing a cup of tea with your flatmate after a long day apart.
starting a book that you know you’re going to love.
Walking on wet sand on the beach in the winter and feeling the cold sea water through my boots.
buying new pyjamas.
following my mother’s Persian recipes.
sharing a cigarette with a dear friend on my front doorstop.
finding something cute in a charity shop and it’s your size.
talking to my dad on the drive back from uni.
vodka cranberry with elderflower cordial and raspberries.
an incredible first kiss.
chopping off your hair with kitchen scissors and it actually looks good.
cooking something for the first time and it ending up perfect.
I really resonate with this. I’ve always found joy in the small things—coming home to my warm bed and a comforting show, eating my favorite meal with my favorite people, feeling the breeze on a cloudy, gloomy day. Lately, though, that feeling has been even stronger. I’ve been noticing the small, maybe even mundane, moments that remind me I’m alive.
